ALL DRESSED UP AND SOMEWHERE TO GO

A BEGINNER'S WORKSHOP WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2010.
(the Monday of the long weekend).

The workshop will be at Assiniboine Park, from 1 to 3 p.m.. Please register by February 13, by sending an email to sstracha@mts.net.

The cost is $25 per person, or $40 for two.

The lesson features an indoor theory portion, and an outdoor hands-on portion, in which participants can try kick sledding and skijoring under the guidance of the coordinators of Snow Motion. All dogs are welcome, on leash, at the workshop. Dogs should be over 1 year in age, and in good health. (We do train pups six months of age and up, but owners should not ask the pup to pull until 12 months of age.) Owners are responsible for their dogs, including clean-up. The workshop supplies you with instructions for training at home, plus treats for your dogs!

People are welcome to bring their own equipment, including skis, harnesses and ski-joring rigs. Remember to dress for the weather, as the workshop will go ahead!

Thanks to the gracious folks at Canvasback Pet Supplies, this workshop lends you the harnesses, skijoring belts and lines, and kick sleds, to try. Canvasback offers a 10 per cent discount on any of this equipment or other supplies you might want to buy after the workshop. (The lone exception to this are the kick sleds.)

Those who wish to have follow-up lessons are encouraged to join Snow Motion (membership is $20 per year).

The Winnipeg workshop is followed by free weekly training sessions. We will work on skills such as learning the mushing commands, how to pass safely, trail etiquette and more.

For more information, send an email to sstracha@mts.net.

Timed Club Runs

Snow Motion will hold a Timed Run on Sunday, January 17 at 11 am at Birds Hill Park, for club members only.

The purpose of the Timed Runs is to provide practice races for club members, to see if they can improve their performance over the season, and in preparation for racing in the 2010 Snow Motion Classic and other races.

Classes include one- to three-dog skijoring and kick sledding. Racers leave the start at one minute intervals.

Volunteers (ie: family members) are needed to help time, keep score, hold dogs.

We would like to keep this event fairly low key, to not attract attention at the park. Thus, the run will be open to club members only.
