Beginners' training sessions

Training sessions are open to anyone who has taken a beginner's lesson. There is no charge for the sessions, but once the trails are open, you need a club membership for insurance purposes*.

The sessions take place on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. when the club is running at Birds Hill Park, on either the group use area 1 trail.

We cover:
  • pulling forward
  • basic mushing commands (gee/haw, on-by, etc.)
  • passing other teams safely
  • working alongside other teams
  • general trail etiquette
This is also a good opportunity to ask questions about how to further your training, talk about skis, kick sleds, techniques, waxes and more.

For this, you need your dog(s) in harness and need to dress for the weather.

Skijorers need skis, poles, boots and a belt and gangline.

Kick sledders need either their own kick sled, the club's rental kick sleds, or must make arrangements to borrow one from the club coordinators.

* To take part in the guided beginner sessions on snow, you must be a member of Snow Motion, as per our agreement with Parks and the City of Winnipeg.

Dues are $20 a year. They are collected during Snow Motion events.
